You may have found your dream house or apartment, but it becomes truly your home only when you put your touches of love on it and decorate in a way that reflects your personal tastes and what appeals you.Interior design is something that makes you enjoy coming home every time. It enhances the function, safety, and aesthetics of an interior space with different colours, textures, furniture, lighting, and space work together to meet the needs of the residents. Designers plan to design and decorate interior spaces of almost every type of building, including offices, airport terminals, theatres, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, schools, hospitals, private residences and what not.

Traditional interior designers, earlier, focused on decorating such as choosing a style and colour palette and selecting appropriate furniture, floor and window coverings, artwork, and lighting. Nowadays, a number of designers are focusing on architectural detailing such as crown moulding and built-in bookshelves, and in planning layouts of buildings undergoing renovation, including helping to determine the location of windows, stairways, escalators, and walkways.


Choosing a tile for your home’s interior is not just about picking tiles of your favourite colour or print, there are a lot of things to consider when you’re selecting tiles for your home. You can select a certain colour in tiles to keep a consistent look or you can use different colour tiles for different room to create a wow-factor. Another thing to consider is the texture. A gloss finish tile will give a stylish, high-end feel while a matt finish gives an earthy feel with more grip than that glossy ones. Generally there are two types of tile regarding their shapes- square and rectangular. The square tiles generally come in sizes like 10” by 10”, 12” by 12”, 16” by 16” and 24” by 24” while the rectangular tiles come in 10” by 18”.

Besides, based on features tiles can be divided in two types. One is mirror polish the other is homogenous. In mirror polish tile the reflection character is greater. It can be used in drawing rooms. Mirror polish tiles are smoother and lighter than common tiles. Mirror polish tiles are more fragile than ordinary tiles.There are some special tiles for bathroom and kitchen. These tiles are made for using in bathroom and kitchen floors only.

Many well known ceramic companies make quality tiles in Bangladesh. Besides, Chinese tiles are popular among imported tiles. There are Spanish tiles in the market that are quite expensive. While choosing the tiles, you should keep the fact in your mind that the colour or texture should not absorb the light of your room. Floor tiles, generally, cost from Tk 60 to Tk 450. The price may vary from city to city and manufacturer to manufacturer and also as per their sizes.


In general people think marble is more durable than tile as marble is produced from stone while tile is made of kaolin.
There are two types of marble available in the market, polished and unpolished. There are Indian, Italian and Turkish marbles available in local market and they are very popular. Marble price range starts from Tk 350 per square foot.

There are marbles in the market ranging from Tk 650 to Tk 1250 for using in floor. There are expensive marbles as well, ranging from Tk 1650 to Tk 1800. Marbles are easy to clean and it hardly collects dirt and dusts. Marble is used in exterior walls, flooring, decorative features, stairway, kitchen countertop, cupboard and walkways. The use of marble depends upon its quality.


Generally, the flat is painted when you receive it from developer. So, it is your duty to let the developer know your preferred colour on the interior and exterior walls. Plastic paints are typically used on the walls.

Besides, different companies sell varieties of paints in local market these days. The colour of curtains and furniture should be kept in mind while selecting the colour for walls.


The design of the ceiling determines the design of whole interior. If you do not design the ceiling, you are simply leaving your interior incomplete. You can design your ceiling in different ways. Generally, ceiling is designed with board. Particle board, ply wood, melamine board and veneered board can be used to design attractive and fascinating ceiling. You can use spot lights, strip lights and tube lights visible or invisible to add dimensions to your interior. Many designers hang external ceiling from the roof with strings or wood grids.

Boards in sizes of 0.5” are used for designing ceiling. While using thicker board, necessary precautions should be taken to prevent the board from falling down. It should be kept in mind that the ceiling fan can be placed in the right place while designing the ceiling.


Cabinet means any kind of space for storage. It can be storage for clothes or can be a TV cabinet. Cabinet can be made of both board and wood. Laminated board are vastly used to keep the cabinet safe from water. Duco paint can also be used instead of lamination. Cabinet can be either attached to the walls while can be separated as well. The interior designer has to be well informed about your need, purpose of use and size of the cabinets.

The interior designer can help you selecting the above furniture that best suit your home. The size, design and colours of bed, sofa and tables of your house will eventually complete the perfect look of your interior. That is why one should be very careful while purchasing the furniture.

Kitchen Cabinet

Kitchen cabinet is the heart of a kitchen. It can be designed with board or wood. Keep in mind, the placements of cabinets are easily accessible for you.

Partition in Dining

Dining rooms are attached with the living rooms without any wall in many flats or apartments in our country. However, you may separate them with full or semi partition of wood, board, glass or any kind of materials. Sometimes the design of partition depends on the position of air conditioner in the room.

Entry Foyer

To give a warm welcome to your guests you can design the entry space in a grand way. You can use a fountain, flower vase or a painting at the entrance.
